These requirements reflect the information outlined in the2024/2025 Academic Catalog. Please select your Admit Type below to view specific requirements for admission:
Test Optional Admission:
Students beginning classes in 2024 can be admitted without submitting ACT or RSAT scores.
- Unconditional Admission: 3.0 GPA
- Conditional Admission: 2.5 GPA
Unconditional Admission:
- 2.0 High School GPA
- 20 ACT or 1030 RSAT (950 SAT-1 iftaken prior to March 2016)
Conditional Admission:
- 2.5 High School GPA
- 17-19 ACT or 910 RSAT (830 SAT-1 if taken prior to March 2016)
OR
- <2.0 GPA
- 20 ACT or 1030 RSAT (950 SAT-1 if taken prior to March 2016)
Applicants who are 21 years of age or older are not required to submit ACT/SAT scores for admission to the university.
All applicants who are graduates of accredited high schools must submit an official transcript showing graduation and a minimum of fifteen Carnegie units, with three or more units in English. Of the units presented, eleven must be in academic courses. Applicants who are graduates of non-accredited secondary schools may be admitted provided they meet the same requirements as students from accredited schools.
Students without a high school diploma can provide the General Education Development (GED) in lieu of high school transcripts.
GED Requirements:
- Test taken after March 1, 2016 - score of 145 for all test subjects and minimum 17 ACT or 910 RSAT
- Test taken after January 1, 2014 - score of 150 for all test subjects and minimum 17 ACT or 830 SAT-1
- Test taken before January 1, 2014- cumulative score of at least 500 (or equivalency outside AL) and minimum 17 ACT or 830 SAT-1
- Students beginning classes in 2024 are able to be admitted without submitting ACT or RSAT scores.
Applicants who are 21 years of age or older are not required to submit ACT/SAT scores for admission to the university.
2.0 high school GPA
Students who meet one of the following criteria are considered Adult Student status and are not required to submit ACT/SAT scores unless the high school GPA is below a 2.0.
- Active duty military member/veteran, or
- A full-time employee, or
- Assumed adult responsibility (parent/guardian/spouse), or
- Be 21 years of age or above
Unconditional Admission Requirements:
2.0 GPA on minimum 12 semester hours (non-developmental and non-dual enrollment college credit) from regionally accredited institutions.
Students transferring to Troy University must provide official transcripts from any institution attended prior to planned enrollment. All students who transfer will have their credits evaluated in order to determine transfer equivalency.

Troy University is proud to offer you an unofficial transfer equivalency report of your undergraduate transfer credits that you have already completed. This report will allow you to see how the course credits you have already earned may transfer into Troy University. To request an "Unofficial Transfer Course Equivalency Report," please send copies of your transcripts, your current zip code and a phone number where you can be reached toDMC@troy.edu. Please add your city, state and zip code in your email request.
A student currently enrolled at another institution who is in good academic standing may wish to study at TROY and return those credits to their original institution. TROY welcomes transient students.
Transient students should submit an admissions application along with the appropriate transient authorization from their current institution. Transcripts and test scores are not required.

Transcript & Test Score Submissions
Once an application has been submitted, please request all transcripts and test scores (Advanced Placement, ACT, SAT, etc.) to be sent electronically totranscripts@troy.eduor by mail to the address below.

An application fee waiver is available for students returning after two years. Balances due must be paid in full before students will be allowed to register for classes.

Student Residency
Requirements for Student Residency:Pursuant to the Code of Alabama, Section 16-64-4, and for the purposes of admissions and tuition, students may be considered a residential student by meeting certain requirements.
Military service members, spouses, dependents and veterans who reside in the state of Alabama, or within 90 miles of a Troy University campus, will be granted in-state residency.
Students not affiliated with one of the categories above, may still meet residency requirements outlined in the Code of Alabama. Please refer to the Office of Admissions/Enrollment Management for residential eligibility.
